Same story...a few weeks ago a "Laura Miller" called a church of Christ in Albany, OR asking for help with a "small need". Someone from the church there asked me about it and I found her number on this website. Then, just a few minutes ago, she called my number and left a voicemail asking for an elder or deacon. I called back. At first I did not know it was her, but I could infer from the tone of her voice and the "smoothness" of her delivery that this was not legitimate. Then I also remembered her name, from before. I said, "I think I've heard about you, calling around and giving this story." She immediately replied, "No, you're a liar. You're a wolf in sheep's clothing. Never call me again."
Called twice today first seeking payment for a night in a hotel in Bellingham, WA, then for a ride to anywhere she would be safe as her car is broken down at the hotel. She was unwilling to be brought to a shelter. Story regarding house sitting was same as others have posted; she is expecting a job offer tomorrow.
Helped with a hotel room in Bellingham, WA. Very similar story ... Current story is that her car was towed because of a transmission issue.
I just received a call from her. She evoked the Samaritan's story and that it was "such a small need', but would not tell me what it was. I called her back after finding her number here. I left a message mentioning that other people have not been please with her and we would not be giving her anything. She called right back, but I didn't answer and she did not leave a voicemail. I grieve that some of you were abused by her and grateful for your stories so others will not be.
This # was on my phone as a forwarding # for when calls to my # were busy, unanswered, or unreachable. I have no idea how "they" were able to set my forwarding, but I finally discovered it on my phone and shut them down. I'm sorry if it has caused any inconvenience. I suggest you check in your call settings under forwarding and see if they somehow have done this to your # as well. I think it's called "spoofing" . Google it, maybe you can figure it out.
Thank you for this. I'm a pastor in Centralia. She left a number for a call back. My gut told me to google her number and it led me here. I'm happy to help with my discretionary fund, but it's getting low and I want to help those who need it.
We received a call from Laura Miller from this number. She was in the Mt. St. Helen's Motel, Castle Rock, WA. Someone had paid for a night for her and she needed another night paid so called us because we worship on Saturday and she knew someone would be at our Church. A deacon and deaconess went to the Motel to meet Laura and hear her story. Her story was not credible: Said her car was towed to a junk yard. Said she was waiting for a house sitting job call which would come in on Monday afternoon. She said she would be calling a Sunday Church in Castle Rock to get them to pay for her Sunday night stay. Laura said she attended the Oral Robert's College and she is a Christian and woman of faith. She was from CA and going toward Seattle for house sitting jobs. It was 10:45am and we invited her to our Potluck meal at noon but she said she had a headache and wanted to rest. Laura was very clean cut and articulate, well nourished and smooth creamy skin on her face. She mentioned being hungry and all I had on me was $15 so gave that to her. We did pay for the room charge of $90.
