Unsolicited call
Today, February 14th, 2022, I received 2 phone calls from a ServiceMagic regarding the work that Antonio from Israeli Roofing does. The male had a Hispanic accent and spoke quickly.
Got a call from this number at 9:30 at night on a Sunday. They hung up as soon as I answered.
Got a phone call on Sunday 12/12/2021 at 8:45 am. A man with an Eastern European accent claimed he found that I had contacted HomeAdvisor the day before on 12/11/2021 for a garage door repair contractor. I've never received calls from HomeAdvisor in the past, only the contractors I have chosen. I asked what his name was, but he refused to tell me and went straight to the already confirm Monday appointment with my chosen contractor. He offered to reschedule it if I like but before I could protest, he sent an email to me reschedule the already confirm appt. I told him to remove it. He not only cancelled the reschedule appt he believed I wanted to, but I didn't. He also cancelled the original appt which was already confirmed the day before. (I called the contractor directly today and he also got the cancellation I did not want.) Furthermore, this man with an accent would not let me off the phone and insisted on finding other contractors for me for any home project. I decided I needed a one-time cleaning service. Inexplicably, he put me on hold and then directly transferred me with a cleaning service not of my own choosing. At the time, I was still groggy from being woken up so early on Sunday, that the lady and I had an appt at 11am today (Monday 12/13/21) for an estimate. She showed up and I asked for her business card. We walked through the rooms (not the entire home) where I wanted a one -time cleaning. I asked if her workers are fully- vaccinated and she said no. I asked if she was fully vaccinated since she is one of the cleaning staff, and she hesitated and then said 'yes'. I felt suspicious and looked up the business card she gave me on the internet and found that it had the same name of a 20-year cleaning service run by someone else, with a different phone number and email address. The card she gave me had no email address at all and no company address. I called the owner of the 20-year cleaning service with the same name, and she told me she's been getting bad reviews from people whom she never provided services. This seemed to be an effort for someone posed as HomeAdvisor in an attempt to send them to other contractors they colluded with. I don't know how else to explain it. I called and cancelled the service appointment with the cleaning service. She tried to give me some lame excuse, but I was firm. THEN, I called this spam number (showed up on my caller ID as spam). Another man who spoke fluent English answered. I told him all about the call from Sunday morning and what transpired. He claimed he didn't know anyone he worked with who had an Eastern European accent who called me Sunday morning. Then he told me he's got many calls coming in and he got to get off the phone. He apologized the trouble I had. I told him that if this is a scam to try to get individuals maybe unqualified for the project to get a job, or people who they know paid them by using a name of an existing company as if they are from it to get jobs, I am reporting them to the Police. And he hung up.
