Got a call from 800-255-7828 So I answered it a woman on the other line said she had the results from my home inspection, and wanted to go over it with me. I told her I didn’t know what she was talking about, but I have not had any a home inspection done and hung up. Then I look up the number it shows it’s my Allstate number for home insurance cars whatever. So I called the number and speak to an Allstate representative who says that there is nothing on my account why anyone would be calling me and of course they don’t deal with home inspections either. So I had my account updated with this information went back online and saw there’s been a bunch of complaints regarding this number and it pretending to be Businesses it’s not. Scary stuff it truly looked like my Allstate had called me that’s the number being used.
I called the number, miss-dialing the correct AT&T number (as others here before me did) at which a greeting stated it was AT&T...and after selecting the "New Customer" option, I was transferred to an obvious foreign call center. They got my name and address before I realized my dialing mistake. I hung up and called back to verify that, indeed, the opening recorded greeting DOES state they are "AT&T"... , which it did. However, this time when I attempted to select the "New Customer" option to confront the operator with the scam, instead of transferring me to someone, a new recording came on stating they are NOT AT&T, giving me the correct 800-288-2020 number and then disconnected me. Apparently, they automatically block all re-attempts to call back knowing the only reason someone would do so is to do exactly what I was attempting in confronting them with their scam.
My 70 year old husband called 1-800-255-2020 by mistake instead of AT&T number which is 1-800-288-2020. He missed the name of the "company". The man immediately asked for my husband's name and address, email address, and then our credit card. My husband said he should have it on our account. The man pressed that he needed it. My husband thought maybe they would need it to refund our prorated billing, so he gave it to him. Then he told my husband to hold for a moment & put him on hold. While on hold, my husband realized he had called the wrong number, and hung up. Almost immediately, another man called back to give my husband a "confirmation" number. My husband told him he had made a mistake and didn't need a "confirmation" number. The man ignored him and told him he needed to take down this number. At this point, I took the phone and firmly told the man that my husband had made a mistake in dialing them instead of AT&T while trying to cancel our phone service. We did NOT need a "confirmation" number! The man hung up on me.
Called and left a message that said they were cardmember services, but wanted us to enter our cc number. Then I called the number back and they asked if I could hear them okay, trying to get me to answer yes. When I asked who they were, they hung up.
accidentally called this number 800(255) instead of 800(288) thinking i was contacting att billing and got someone at indian call center that stated they were att promotions that was going to give me visa cash card, asked for name, address, birth date, then there was small processing charge to receive cash card, which is when i realized, yes it seemed too good to be true.
