Said they were from Bank of America and there was an issue on my account. I did not answer the call and they left a message. They said to be prepared to give information to them when I called back.
Received multiple calls from this number claiming to be BOA. Caller said a letter was mailed and wouldn't share where it was mailed. Asked for authorized person on account. Said they wanted to authenticate the account because there was a problem. When I called the phone number back, it says Bank of America and is asking to either enter banking information, social security or tax ID number. I'm very skeptical, so emailed the number to my local BOA rep.
Legitimate. I called the main Bank of America customer service number and they were able to confirm number, but they also transferred me directly to the department that sent the letter and called.
Received phone calls and an official looking letter asking for business information. I called the Customer Service phone number on my actual credit card and they did not have any record of sending me a letter.
They called on my land line. Then immediately on my cell. When I called number it sounded legitimate. Until they asked for ss number. Said they were BankAmerica and problem with my account
I've been getting calls from this number. I called BoA and they confirmed it was not them.
Do not trust this number. It always shows up on my caller I.d. as “Scam likely.†Each day they left a voice mail, claiming to be different representatives from Bank of America [BoA], saying they were trying to reach a certain person (same name), and providing the same reference number. It sounded very official. So I called the official contact number for BoA (different from the number given). After speaking with 3 of their representatives, each in a different department (including Privacy Department and Fraud Department), none of them could trace this 800-496-9471 number as belonging to BoA. Conclusion: Most likely a scam. Never answer calls from or return calls to this 800 number, and report them to the United States National Do Not Call registry at www.donotcall.gov
