This man said his name was Matthew. He was from Dell and wanted to help clean up my computer, even giving me my computer serial number. At that point I thought it was real and let him in to my computer. He said there are so many infected websites and to fix them I need to buy SSL which costs $149 a year but he could fix it temporarily. He said it will take 30-40 minutes, so he will hang up the phone and call me back after it's fixed. However, I saw him going to my bank site and stayed there a while and then tried again. Then he moved to my IRA account. He actually entered to my account view as I saved all the login info (another thing I should have NEVER done). At that point I turned off the computer. Right away I called Tech Support and they said they would never proactively call the customer for help. No matter how suspicious of this guy, I fell into his scam. Now I am fixing all the possible info he could have had access to. So everyone, don't be fooled like me if he tries to verify by telling you your computer tag number. The phone says Service 800, so it's so easy to be scammed. I called this toll free number. and it says temporarily not on service. I wonder how they could have my computer tag no. - could be someone who got fired from Dell. He also used broken English - hard to understand. What a terrible experience! I should have googled this number while talking with that scammer.
Sounded Like Fake Dell Support. Had a serial number but I did not have my laptop on me. I blocked them because dell never contacts me to check my computer
Pretending to be Dell support. I could actually validate the serial number of the machine though, so not sure how they came about the information attached to my name. Knew it was a scam from the beginning, put them on hold to validate the serial number and by that point they hung up.
