Do Not Call & Robocall Complaints Reported to the FTC

Got unwanted call from 866-384-6171?

User Comments

Received two messages from 1-866-384-6171 asking me to call back with a 7-digit code. I telephoned the United Healthcare phone number on the back of my card to check authenticity before returning the call. United Healthcare representative said there was no such number associated with them and advised me not to call it back and share any information. She suggested that the any time I receive a call from United Healthcare that does not match the number on the back of my card, to call and let them know. Please, fellow Americans, share this UHC advice and be careful with your personal information. Trust no one until you take the extra step to verify... and report potential scammers!

My wife has received calls from this number around 6 times this month, all saying "United Health Care Community Plan". She basically hangs up, we verify the number is this and not something important, and shake our heads. They must be desperate to get info from us, which is silly since we're poor simple folk. :P Do like other people suggest if you get this number and Google up the real UHC and contact them to find out if they really need to get a hold of you.

I did not answer the call but they did leave a message and it's the same message everyone else is getting from UHC. I get these calls quite often. Does anyone know if there's a way to stop them?

I got the call and trusting the person who said they called actual UHC and were told these were scammers, I got on my VOIP and tried to call. Because it wasn't my number on file (or maybe the bot says this anyway) it says it didn't recognize my number and to give them the code from the voicemail. I do so, and the robot reads the number back and says "is this correct" and ....I don't say yes. I say "Correct" and pretty much everything but "yes" because I've heard that some scams just need your voice saying "yes" and they can call places pretending to be you and use your info to get credit cards etc. I've already had someone pretend to be me and steal my unemployment when the pandemic started... Don't be fooled. Don't bother calling them back. You won't be wasting a persons time; just a machine that wants your "Yes" on file.

9/16/19 @ 12:56PM CDT This number is, in fact, a SCAM. Because I was unable to answer this call, they left a message. The message begins, "Hello, this is... hello, this is United Healthcare Community Plan calling for [yes, they knew my name]. Please call us toll-free at 1-866-384-6171 and enter the 7 digit confirmation code so we know it's you [redacted]. [Message repeats] Thank you. Goodbye.". Initially I called the number back, but before entering the 7 digit code they provided, I decided to simply Google the number they called from to verify its association with UHC. The ONLY results were pages like this. I called UHC who checked with their Housecall Programs & verified that this number is not affiliated with them at all. I was ultimately transferred to their fraud dept. who stated that the previous call they received was about this exact phone number. If they call you & you want a laugh, just waste their time. They are scammers. As long as they're busy with someone who already knows it's a scam, they won't be scamming anyone else. To anyone reading this, NEVER provide ANY information about yourself or your family to ANYONE calling you. As soon as they reveal that they want information from you, hang up & call the company directly from 1 of their official websites or ads. ONLY provide info to companies you are 100% certain of who they are. With the tech these scammers use today, they can make the caller ID display your own phone number, so never trust that. Always call companies for yourself. If they want to talk with you about something, they will be able to see it in their system. Be diligent! Be skeptical! And question EVERYTHING! The truth will always stand up to investigation.
