if you go to the SSI website on the internet, it lists this as a number for the SSI office. This is so strange
Person calling identified herself as being with SS and was calling about my Medicare. When I called the number back whoever answered verified it was SS.
This robotic spammer called 10 times in 4 days. A bank will never call you and ask for your account number, whether by speaking on the phone or through an automated phone call. If you want to call the number back, do NOT type or say your account number at the prompt, just wait until the system eventually connects you to a person to talk to. Ask why they are calling. Do NOT give your social security number or date of birth. Do not give any information, just insist to know WHY they are calling!! Your best course of action, if you think the call is from Citibank and you suspect a problem with your account. Just call Citibank directly with the number you see listed on the back of your credit card or the phone number on your Citibank account statement. 866-6613-6856 is NOT associated with the REAL Citibank! If you can, ask the fake Citibank representative for their name and "ID NUMBER" (Citibank reps don't have ID numbers) and call Citibank to report the fraudulent phone number and provide them with the phone number 866-613-6856 and the ID number of the person you talked to. IGNORE CALLS FROM THIS NUMBER IF YOU CAN.
Received a call from this number. "Hello, this is Citibank calling about your Citibank account, Account. (that is word for word, no specific account type or retail name). If this is XXXX XXXX, press 1. If not, Press 2". (I did not press any numbers.) "Sorry, I didn't get that. If this is xxx xxx, press 1. If not, press 2". This looped 4 times before caller said to call 866-613-6856 and disconnected. I called Citibank, because #1, they never call people and say calling about your "account. Account." #2, the person they're trying to reach DOES NOT HAVE A CITIBANK ACCOUNT. Citibank confirmed the phone number is not one of the numbers from any of their call centers. They advised never to give any personal/identifying information (account #, social security#, date of birth) over the phone and to call Citibank only with the number you see on the back of the credit card or from your bank statement. I called the # back, and the automated message asks for your account number (I did NOT provide this). a REAL Citibank automated message only asks for the last 4 digits of your ATM or DEBIT. If you don't type any numbers, the message will loop 3 times before connecting you to a live person... so don't type your account number at the prompt!!!! The fake Citibank person introduced herself by name and "ID number". A REAL Citibank rep does not identify themselves with any kind of "ID NUMBER". The first thing the representative asked was my account number. a REAL Citibank representative only asks you to confirm your NAME, because they have your account information in their system!!! I asked the reason for their call, and after back and forth bantering of my not giving up ANY personal information and insisting over and over again to know the REASON for the call (not providing any account number, date of birth OR social security number, ONLY saying a first name), the lady finally raised her voice angrily and scoffed, "Well, you tell XXXXX to call me back and give me the social security number and date of birth and account number and THEN I will tell him why I called!!!" And she hung up on me... By the way, a REAL Citibank representative has never EVER been rude or loud to me, has NEVER hung up on me, and has ALWAYS thanked me for calling Citibank and offered any further assistance before hanging up the phone with me. DO NOT GIVE ANY PERSONAL INFORMATION TO THE SCAMMERS WHO ARE CONTACTING YOU THRU PHONE NUMBER 866-613-6856. PS: I reported the phone # to Citibank Fraud, I filed a complaint with the FCC, and I'm composing a long explanation to the news media so they can share with the public on how to identify and protect themselves from scammers.
Received a recorded message yesterday and again this morning. The voice identified herself with Citicard services reporting a problem with my Home Depot account.
I received 6 messages in a row on my phone from this number. It was a computer voice claiming to be from Citi bank and that it was not a "sales call." I checked with Citibank and this phone number is not connected to them and it is a scam.
Daily harassing recorded claims there is an amount past due on a credit card--- very convincing format but not accurate---asks for payment over the phone.
