I got an email saying to call that number about student loan forgiveness
Got a text saying that my student loan could be forgiven. I have no student loans.
855-546-7888 said they were Geek International and I owed them $2800 for a virus protection software that I don’t have and have never heard of.
Same problem but a different phone number and they got into my computer first. This goes back to May 2018. Upon booting up, I get the red screen of death instead of the blue one. It was somewhat transparent and threatening. Said if I shut down, it will wipe my drive clean. So, I called the number. I figured if they got in then they had the capability of following through with their threat. The live person I spoke with, presumably from India or at least that's what his accent sounded like, said for a mere $200+, they could release the shackles on my computer. They wanted payment by a personal check sent as a PDF. The check was to be made out to a business called I-Times. They then took over my computer and "cleaned it up". As soon as we parted company, I got over to my local Geek Squad for them to do a complete check for everything including worms. They found one. The irony here is that the bogus outfit installed WEBROOT after deleting my ESNET. Did a quick search and found that WEBROOT is a legitimate security program and after getting computer back from Geek Squad, I saw they installed WEBROOT as well but this was under their license. After the scan was run, it picked up and isolated a threat that the scammers installed. Now the interesting part. After my check cleared, I opened my banking program and pulled up the check image. IT WAS TOTALLY ALTERED from my handwritten check and was increased by another $150. The endorsement on the back side showed an account number at a reputable suburban Chicago bank. Now we have BANK FRAUD which falls into the FBI's area of responsibility. On November 27, I got the same call as reported above but from a different number. 855-546-7888. They threatened to take out $1660. I got to my bank as fast as possible and closed out my checking. Since then, I changed banks as well. The last call I got was a few days ago. They left a voice message on my cell. I managed to copy that to a USB for further action.
Got the same call from them for a withdrawal of $6800 with the agreement that I signed. Never signed. 855-546-7888 is a callback and ask for Marty
I got a call just like the above recipient(s) with same phone numbers but was going to withdraw $6000 and something from my bank account. He was hard to understand as his English was broken up.
This caller keeps calling telling me my security on computer is at risk and 7000.00 will be taken out of my bank...good luck with that !~ They also give a call back number which is not in service. They are very threatening...I have blocked the number but it still keeps coming...they also texted me ! How can I report them ????!!!!! I copied and pasted, because I couldn't have said it better.
I just received a call from this # informing me they were going to withdraw $4000 from my checking account! My experience with the FCC suggests that you can complain until the cows come home and it won't matter one whit!
