Feb 24, 9:14 pm EST Received call from "Publisher's Clearinghouse" asking if I had received their mailed notification of winning a prize. Was asked if I would be at home at 9:30 tomorrow morning. (He had my name & address!) Seemed disconcerted when I said I had not received the letter, but would speak to me in the morning. I'd like to know how I can win a "Publisher's Clearinghouse" prize...when I've never entered!!
The caller was posing as a representative of Publisher's Clearing House, stating I won $150,000. When I mentioned that PCH didn't call winners, his excuse was that PCH has changed procedures due to COVID.
The caller stated that he was from the publisher clearinghouse and that I had one $5000 A week for the rest of my life that all I had to do was go to the nearest Walgreens fill out a registration card with my copy of my drivers license information and Social Security number also to purchase a prepaid go card to pay the fee amount of $599 obviously to go to him and his associates He stated after I completed this and him and attorney will meet with me to give my first check he was a computer to change his voice 100% scam don’t fall for this Jamaica prefix phone number Jamaica prefix phone number I told him that I was going to report him and then he hung up
Same as above...said he was representing Publisher's Clearinghouse and that I had won the grand prize of 3.5 million dollars. He proceeded to tell me he was in a town about 20 minutes away and they were ready to come and give me my winnings....but first I needed to go to Walmart and do a store to store money transfer of $399 to securely register my name as the winner. I told him I didn't have that kind of money. Then he asked what I could come up with. I told him $10. He said they could take $250 for me as a special deal. He then told me I should try to borrow the money from a friend or family or even try to go to a pawn shop. He said he was doing everything he could to help me collect my winnings. I told him that since he was so close to me, maybe I could just borrow the money from him and pay him back after I cashed the great big check they give me. This is when he broke from script and started speaking with someone just before hanging up on me. So yes... absolutely a scam. Definitely not with Publisher's Clearinghouse
I also received a call from an individual saying he was from Publishers Clearing House and that I won $3.5M tax free. I just had to go to Walmart and pay a fee so they could release the money. Since I work with funding I am fully aware of these type of frauds and told the individual that he was presenting a fraud and hung up.
This person said they were from Publishers Clearing House. They also said that they were from Alabama. I have not entered Publishers Clearing House and told her. She didn't like my attitude and said she was going to give my winnings to charity and told me to go to Hell and hung-up. My phone said it was from Surrey County, Kingston Jamaica.
