Got unwanted call from 888-242-9948?
Received a call from 949-328-7756 which left a robocall message about student loan forgiveness and to give them a call at 888-242-9948. The thing is that I was one of the responsible ones that managed to pay off their student loans. I believe I've paid mine off either 2 or 3 years ago so my balance is 0. The fact that they are calling and saying I have a student loan and I was the one inquiring about student loan forgiveness shows to me that they are a scammer. For those that do have a student loan and receive this robocall, I'd be very wary if you are asked to give your private information. The minute they get something important like social security numbers, etc..., don't be surprised if they run up debt on your ID and leaving you to pay the debt or declare bankruptcy.
I got a message from 317 795 1312 asking me to call back to 888 242 9948 in reference to help with my student loan...news flash this a scam as I do not have any students loans. I hate to believe scammers are smarter than all these phone ? companies and can not get this junk stopped!
UPDATE!!! I received 12 hits against 888 242 9948 Today and that's up from about 8 which is a lot, but 12 is highly unusual!! Received a Call Today, on the Cell, from a Wireless Caller; Student Loan Forgiveness (SLF) 317 601 7606 in the form of a Voice Mail, never got the call. There are 2 different SLF Calls. One that tells you that you made an inquiry about SLF and this one that tells you that you qualify for 90% reduction of your Student Loan. I don't know whether everyone that gets one of these calls has Student Loan debt, I doubt it, but I do, but have never made an inquiry about SLF! The one thing that is common to all these calls is the Call Back Number 888 242 9948, which is a Verified/Confirmed "ROBO/SCAM/FRAUD"!!! It goes without saying the need to Use Extreme Caution if and when speaking with one of these Callers!!! NEVER Give Personal Inof Over The Phone, ESPECIALLY!!! if the Caller is PHISHING for INFO!!! And NEVER Verify Info For Someone You Don't Know!!!
While I can't call this a SCAM outright, I can't call it legit either. Let's look at some facts. First I'm always suspicious when someone calls from one number and asks me to call back to a different number which is what this number is; call back number. It's a ROBO Caller, so they have no idea who you are or if you have a Student Loan, and there is "No Name Associated With This Number" which means is not good news. These people will file for Student Loan Forgiveness for a fee. Nothing illegal about that, but you have no assurance that they will do anything for you. This is something you can do for yourself at the Department of Education through the William D. Ford Federal Direct Loan Program! Are they a SCAM? A lot of people are saying Yes, one things for sure based on the info I've researched they aren't necessarily legit. You'll have to make up your own mind!!! However, Use Extreme Caution if and when dealing with this Caller
These people will not help you- they will have you pay a monthly fee to apply for loan deferments and income adjustment payments, things you can do yourself on the federal website. SCAM.
So if i spoof call you & say you qualify for the William D Ford Act you'll just divulge all your information? We just got scam call & they quoted legitimate agencies & my 90 yr old grandmothers loans can be forgiven. She's never been to college. Don't trust that unless you initiated the call back. They do have basic info they can get online.
The reason why the call does not ring, is their effort to keep you from blocking their number once you have received it on your cell phone. Calls that do not ring many times do not show up on caller ID. Be sure to block it as soon as you can to prevent further calls coming thru to you.
888-242-9948, Called back this number about "student loans" to find out what information they actually have about my alleged student loans. I asked a question and was promptly hung upon. I have been receiving many calls lately about alleged student loans and I think this is all fraudulent. The last time I was in college was over 45 years ago!! What can be done to stop this fraud?
These are companies that solicit student loan forgiveness. All they really do is to help you file the paperwork for student loan forgiveness which you are paying them to help you with with no guarantee of forgiveness. They will call and leave a message making you think they are someone they are not, only to find that you are just being solicited. I've gotten these calls often, but now I am actually part of a lawsuit, so when they called and used the term "lawsuit" I wasn't sure if the call was for real. However, when they called again, the message said just the right thing for me to know it was just a solicitation.
received call from a Redondo Beach, CA number. left an automated (recorded) voicemail citing a Navient lawsuit and how my student loan with them had been accepted into the lawsuit. the recording provided the number 888-242-9948 to call back and provide a code starting with the letters "SL." the following website describes what happened when this number was investigated: https://www.classaction.org/blog/received-a-call-about-the-navient-lawsuits-be-careful
