Got unwanted call from 800-450-8738?
I have gotten 3 calls today from this number, they do not leave a message.
call
I called the American Express customer support and spoke with the identity theft team. This is NOT, NOT a valid American Express phone number despite them having your name and number. American Express requested I ignore any information from them and reported them. This is NOT an AMEX department, it is a SCAM!
Said they were AMEX Fraud. Doesn't match AMEX fraud number.
This number is for the American Express high risk department. It seemed suspicious to me so I called American Express on the number provided on AmEx website. The agent I spoke to confirmed that it was a legitimate AmEx number. Somebody was applying for credit in my name so it was good that I called back. If you get a call from this number call AmEx and confirm this for yourself before calling this number. A legitimate call will never ask you for your sensitive information other than your name and this number didn't do that. You can't be too careful with your identity or people trying to scam you.
It is one of several numbers for American Express fraud department. In my case, I had recently applied for a credit card, and Amex wanted to make sure it was me. Not knowing if I could trust the number, I called them back using the customer service number on their website. I spoke to 2 customer service representatives before being routed to the fraud department. The reference number they originally gave me proved legitimate, as was the original call, apparently.
